Parlons de Edgar Degas

Institut français du Danemark, Rolighedsvej 37, 1958 Frederiksberg C
05.02.2025 / 13:00 - 14:00

Degas is known for his modeling studies, ballet paintings, and of the Parisian life. The Glyptotek in Copenhagen also has a large collection of his bronze statuettes of women.

What was Edgar Degas's view on women? Some people thought he was misogynist, but his hundreds of works of little dancers at the Paris Opera and the support he gave to many women at a time when it was almost impossible for them to be recognised and accepted as painters proved that he was a man of many paradoxes.

Philippe, a teacher at the Institut français, will show us the "other Degas" and help us to understand who lies behind the artist.

  • A ticket for "Les rendez-vous du mercredi après-midi" costs 100 Dkk (without drinks)
  • This talk is given in easy-to-understand French.
