Randa Maroufi - An evening of Moroccan short films and debate

Cinemateket - Gothersgade 55, 1123 København
14.10.24 / 19.00

Award-winning Moroccan filmmaker Randa Maroufi (b. 1987) makes hyper-elegant, sensual short films that are also restrained, ambiguous political statements. She is interested in boundaries, particularly those between social classes and genders, and ingeniously stages them through the movement of bodies and objects:

In a posh Moroccan reception room, a woman calmly meets the viewer's gaze. Or is it a man? Elsewhere, the camera glides weightlessly through a traffic jam across an infinite grey expanse, while a sound montage brings to life the voices of migration at the Ceuta border.

On 14 October at 7pm, Cinematekele is organising a discussion with the director based on a selection of her own short films. She will be accompanied by anthropologist Mahmoud Keshavarz and transmedia researcher Erin Cory. This event is organised in collaboration with the Öresund Study Centre in Lund.
