Les salons du mercredi : Femmes Artistes Voyageuses
Traveling artists from one side of the Mediterranean to the other.
Discover four female traveling artists who have sought inspiration on the other side of the Mediterranean, in Algeria and Morocco.
Marie Lucas-Robiquet, Jeanne Thil, Marie Caire Tonoir and Virginie Demont-Breton benefited from a new context that in the late 19th century, with the first feminist movements, encouraged women to assert themselves outside the domestic sphere and promoted the image of a “new woman” in charge of her own destiny. They trained at the École des Beaux-Arts or private academies, gained professional status and exhibited at fairs and universal and colonial exhibitions.
The lecture will be held in easy-to-understand French.
