Millepatte - Tusindben
On August 28, we opened our new exhibition Millepatte - Tusindben, a duo show by artist Marielle Paul and designer Maud Paul. The exhibition runs until January 17 2025 and is free to visit Monday-Friday during the opening hours of the institute.
The exhibition is presented in partnership with Galerie Maria Lund, Paris and ENTER Art Fair and takes place in the new exhibition space dedicated to emerging contemporary art at the French Institute in Frederiksberg.
Marielle, the mother, paints in Paris while Maud, the daughter, designs furniture in Maastricht. Millepatte -Tusindben is their mother-daughter conversation, nourished by a shared taste for play and a common fascination for the vitality of nature: shapes and colors abound and vibrate with humor. Marielle's restless Mosaïques make their way along the wall, while Maud's Millipede sofa takes a few steps on the floor. Their palettes intersect: bright and vivid with refined tones. Marielle's is carried by the pigmented, matte gouache matter, and Maud's by cozy textiles. Their two worlds, punctuated by the contours of Marielle's solid colors and the metal tubes of Maud's furniture, remain flexible, ready to mutate. The boundaries between art and design are suspended: Marielle flirts with ornament and Maud with sculpture. Mother and daughter play with fertile ambiguities, and their creations reveal how their artistic practices move forward, evolve and sometimes intersect.
