Histoire, sport et citoyenneté
Today, the Olympic movement is asserting itself as the world's leading event and is returning to Paris in 2024 for the thirtieth edition of the Olympic Games, a hundred years after the 1924 Paris Olympic Games.
On this occasion, the French Institute invites you to see the exhibition "Histoire, sport et citoyenneté", to introduce you to the Olympic saga through the crises, struggles, and exploits of the greatest Olympic champions and the major battles that have shaped our contemporary world. These include the struggles for equality, racism, and discrimination, for parity and women's rights, for civil rights, and against apartheid.
This chronological tour takes visitors behind the scenes of each of the 30 Olympiads, from Athens in 1896 to Paris in 2024, and of 15 Paralympic Games. The different editions of these Olympiads will take you on a trip around the world, bringing together athletes, men, and women, who have achieved real feats and written an exceptional page of History about self-transcendence. These individual stories, as well as extraordinary destinies, highlight civic values and personalities whose commitment has left its mark on contemporary history.
