“Another Green World” and “The life of plants”
"The city is a gathering of human individuals who dream of becoming a forest." — Emanuele Coccia
Emanuele Coccia is a world-renowned Italian philosopher and Associate Professor at the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales (EHESS) in Paris. His work spans a wide array of topics — from plants and light to architecture and fashion — and he is known for drawing on knowledge from biology, botany, and other scientific disciplines to enrich his philosophical reflections.
According to Coccia, architecture is never merely an interaction between humans and their environment: it is a dialogue between species — from humans, animals, and bacteria to the algae and plants whose photosynthesis first made, and continues to make, the Earth a breathable world. "The living world is a world of architects," he writes.
At the Bloom 2025 festival, Emanuele Coccia will deliver two lectures highlighting his groundbreaking work in the field of natural philosophy:
Friday, 23/05 — 4:30 PM to 5:30 PM
"The Life of Plants" is the title of his influential book, which explores the essential role of plants in sustaining life on Earth and their foundational importance to our world.
Saturday, 24/05 — 7:50 PM to 8:50 PM
Coccia will be joined on stage by designer and architect Stif L. Andersson. Together, they contribute to the emerging movement of natural philosophy, which seeks to rethink the place of nature within our cities and landscapes.
Emanuele Coccia’s participation is organized in collaboration with the Bloom Festival and the architecture firm Lundgaard & Tranberg Arkitekter.
Lectures will be held in English and are free to attend.
