France - Greenland Scientific Mobility Grants 2027

Following the declaration of intent between the governments of the French Republic and Greenland on cooperation in the fields of research and culture signed on 4th September 2026 in Paris as well as the call from the French national research agency / ANR (1 million € funding of 5 major research projects in social sciences, sustainable tourism, seismology, health and circular economy) earlier this year, the Institut Français du Danemark is opening a call designed to support scientific collaborations between researchers or scientists based in France and in Greenland through short-term mobility grants, from France to Greenland and from Greenland to France.

The call's main mission is to promote research cooperation in the priority areas identified by both parties. It is funded by the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs and implemented by Institut Français du Danemark. The deadline for submitting applications is November 2, 2026. The mobility funded by this grants program must be completed in 2027.

Article 1: Objectives

The main objective of the fund is to foster new scientific collaborations and partnerships. The fund specifically aims to:

• Facilitate face-to-face meetings, on-site visits and direct contact between researchers and scientists ;

• Explore the feasibility of a joint project or the preparation of a joint application for national or international funding ;

• Encourage the active participation of early-career researchers (Masters students, PhD students, postdoctoral researchers) and young scientists.

Projects may employ interdisciplinary approaches and involve local stakeholders and expertise.

Article 2: Eligibility

Any permanent or contract-based researcher or scientist affiliated with a recognised research, higher education institution or private laboratory in France or Greenland is eligible to apply for funding.

Priority fields of research (but not limited to it) :

- Climate, environment, natural sciences (biology, ocean, polar) ;

- Sustainable management of natural resources, renewable energy ;

- Social science. 

Article 3: Nature and amount of the grant

Funding is awarded in the form of a lump-sum mobility grant of 5.000 €.

Amount: up to €5,000 per project / consortium.

Beneficiaries: A joint application comprising a researcher or scientist affiliated in France and a researcher or scientist affiliated in Greenland.

Purpose: Covers travel and accommodation costs for both grant recipients (e.g. a French researcher travels to Greenland, a Greenlandic researcher travels to France).

Eligible expenses between France and Greenland :

• Flight / Train or other transportation tickets and local transport ;

• Accommodation costs and daily allowances (meals);

• Registration fees for a small-scale workshop.

Exclusions: The fund does not finance equipment, laboratory consumables or salaries.

Article 4: Application

Application file:

• A description in French or English (maximum two pages) of the project/visit programme (objectives, methodology, scope and expected outcomes);

• A provisional timetable (dates and locations);

• A provisional budget;

• The CVs of the project leaders.

Article 5: Duration and Implementation

The mobility funded by this grant programme must be completed by 31 December 2027.

Successful applicants undertake to submit an activity report, describing the outcomes of their mobility, and a financial statement within one month of the end of the mobility period (max. 2 pages).
